Reading Queue December

December 4, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: Reading Queue 10 Comments

Format: select

Reading Queue is a monthly meme where you share what books you plan to read for the month.  You can hop to other blogs and see what others are reading and maybe find someone reading the same thing as you! Or you can ask for people to vote on what you should read next if you can’t decide.  Reading Queue is hosted by Book Tasty and Books:  A true story.

To Read

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy
Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund
Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns

How I Did Last Month

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I liked this one though I thought the middle was extremely slow.  I liked the ending but I can see why a lot of people didn’t.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Honestly, I was not a big fan of this one.  It had great characters and an interesting mythology, but it felt really slow and I felt like the ending just wasn’t explained enough.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

I didn’t like this one much either.  It had Greek mythology mixed in with Beauty and the Beast which was interesting, but I felt like the ending and the conflict did not match.  And the main character who plays beauty was a spiteful, unlikeable person.

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Sadly, I didn’t get to this one.

Let the SKy Fall
Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

Bonus! I wasn’t planning on reading this one, but I needed an ebook to read at my in-laws house while we stayed over and I had this one on my kindle. It was the shining book in my very “meh” month!  It was the best duel point of views book that I’ve read! The voices were very well done and the romance was so swoony and I loved the characters.  I highly recommend this one.

So good to see you! The Scarlet Pimpernel has been on my to-read list for years now so I HAVE to read it, and you’re inspiring me. I’m in the middle of Allegiant. I think I’m afraid to finish it since I’ve heard the ending is surprising, angry making… I haven’t read a review actually since I’m afraid of spoilers. :) Good luck with your fun December readings! I want to do a queue for this month, but I’m having goal making problems. lol

I am listening to Insurgent right now. I am trying to get through it as quickly as possible, before I get accidentally spoiled for Allegiant! Great job with your books in November!

I meant to read The Scarlet Pimpernel a few months ago, but I didn’t finish it. It’s still on my list. I just need to read it. Soon … maybe, lol.

Have you ever read Number the Stars? It’s the first book I ever remember reading on my own. I was in 6th grade. That’s sad, huh? I loved the book, but I didn’t keep up with reading. The bug just hadn’t bit me yet.

You make me want to read The Scarlet Pimpernel. I remember loving the movie. I have the book on my bookshelf but have not read it yet. Have a great reading month!

Haha! You’re vlog cracked me up. I’m the same way (especially when my husband talks about work). I’m much better at remembering what I’ve read than what I’ve listened to. But in the last six months I’ve been listening to audiobooks and it’s gotten much better. It’s such a different way of experiencing a book. I enjoy great narrators and the depth they add to the characters whose stories they’re telling. I hope you enjoy your first audiobook.
I haven’t read any of the books you read in November. I’m still nervous to pick up Allegiant, even though I bought it when it came out. And I think I put it on two reading queue posts. Lol. Oh well. Someday I’ll get to it. I’m glad to hear you liked Let the Sky Fall. It’s been on my TBR list for a while. I find dual POV can be very distracting when it’s not done well.
Good luck with your December reads! I’ve read both Across a Star-Swept Sea and Life After Theft and after watching your vlog I feel like I really need to read and watch The Scarlet Pimpernel!

Oh yay! That gives me hope that I can improve my listening skills :)

Oh Let the Sky Fall was soooo awesome. Allegiant has duel POVs and they were so hard to tell apart. Let the Sky Fall left Allegiant in the dust.

If you watch the movie, tell me!! I’d love to hear what you think. I don’t know why but it just seems like a Christmasy romance to watch :)

Jessica I am shocked!!!! First audiobook. You’ll be hooked. I do audiobooks on my looonnngg drive to and from work everyday. I love it! I think this is the first year audiobooks outnumbered physical books.

Am I the only one who has not heard of The Scarlet Pimpernel? *small voice*

I know!! I’m not exaggerating though about forgetting things I hear. I’m excited to try something new! I don’t have a commute or I might listen to audiobooks more. I’m kind of jealous you get to read that many.

LOL You mean you haven’t heard of that made for TV movie?? LOL. The scarlet pimpernel was originally a book set during the French Revolution and is a romance that was written in the early 1900s. It’s good – you should check it out (and the movie is good too:)

You are just too cute in your vlog! I love it!
On another note! HOLY JUNK! November and December were just crazy for me and I was a totally non existent blogger friend! I haven’t been reading as much as I liked, but you know what? I’m going to show myself some grace because it was totally the holidays (and a trip overseas) that messed me up!
I have LOVED running Reading Queue with you the past few months and I can’t wait to see where it goes in 2014! It is so helpful for me to have it and to know I’m not alone in it! :)
I hope you and your family have had a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to catching up with you soon :)
