Austenland: I {heart} Mr Darcy

Here’s the blurb for Austenland in case you haven’t heard of this movie yet.

Socially awkward Jane Hayes (Keri Russell) is obsessed with the works of Jane Austen and fantasizes about the character of Mr. Darcy. She scrapes together as much money as she can and takes off for Austenland, a British theme resort where guests immerse themselves in a romantic fantasy worthy of Austen herself. However, because Jane’s limited funds do not allow as many privileges as other guests, her chance at a fling with her very own Mr. Darcy may be limited as well.

This movie was produced by Stephenie Meyer and was adapted from a novel of the same name by Shannon Hale.

My thoughts on this movie can be summed up in one word: hilarious.

This was me pretty much the whole movie.

I loved the antics from Jennifer Coolidge.

Most of the jokes are only funny in the context, but if you’ve been a fangirl over anything, you’ll appreciate the humor in this movie and the idea of wanting fiction to be real.  It’s over the top, just a little cheesy (in a fun way), entertaining, witty, and just plain funny.  And Ricky Whittle taking off his shirt every opportunity he got was priceless.

The romance was so cute and  I adored their connection.  It’s about the fantasy of love verses the reality of love and how maybe you can have a little of both.

The only thing that made me uncomfortable was when Jane almost gets assaulted and the other guys are like, “Ugh, are you assaulting girls AGAIN?” It felt awkward that they would cover something like that up.  Luckily, he doesn’t get away with it.

After the movie is over and I’ve swooned over the romance and laughed my pants off, there’s a bonus Rap meets Regency music video during the credits. I die.

Oh man I haven’t had that much fun watching a movie in a while. *wipes tears of laughter*

I did not expect to laugh the entire movie, but I really did and was happy to do so!
