My Star Wars Book Recomendations

February 19, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: Events 9 Comments

Star Wars Book Month February 2013

Just a little disclaimer about these recs – it has been a VERY long time since I read some of these and I can’t say for sure that they are books I would still like today.  But they are books that I still remember after all this time.  So there must be something good about them, right? :)

Star Wars Attack of the ClonesStar Wars: Attack of the Clones (Episode II Novelization) –  I liked this novelization because it fleshes out a few things that the movie skips over like the fact that Anakin gives Padme Threepio to help her and she gives Anakin Artoo-Detoo to watch out for him.  Then Threepio and Artoo are together in the original trilogy like their love lived on! I thought that was adorable.  And I liked the romance in this one.

Book Cover for Star Wars: The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave WolvertonCourtship of Princess Leia – This was the first Star Wars novel I read. I was absolutely giddy to read about what happened after the last movie.  I really enjoyed reading about rancors in their natural environment and the society structure of the Force “witches.”

Star Wars Heir to the EmpireHeir to the Empire – I can’t remember for sure if I ever actually read this trilogy by Timothy Zahn, but it’s by far the most popular Expanded Universe fiction.

Star Wars TrilogyThe Original Trilogy – I enjoyed the backstory in the novels much more than the movies.  The foreshadowing of what happens in the prequels just sounds so much cooler than what actually happened in the movies.

star wars labyrinth of evilLabyrinth of Evil – This is a book to bridge the gap between Episodes II and III.  The foreshadowing of Anakin’s drift to the dark side was interesting to read about.

Spector of the Past – I definitely read this Timothy Zahn book and I loved this last stand of the remnants of the Empire.star wars specter of the past

The Truce at Bakura – Another fun novel that happens right after Episode VI.

There is a Goodreads List that lists the most popular Star Wars novels if you want to check it out.

Any Star Wars books that you would recommend?

My favorite is Labyrinth of Evil…I haven’t read any of the other ones listed. I read a bunch back in high school, but its been so long, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t remember anything about any of them. Since starting this read a long, my love for Star Wars literature has been renewed…I’m going to have to pick a couple of these up to add to my small collection!! :)

I’ve always wanted to read a few Star Wars books, but there are SO many, and I don’t know where to start! What book would you recommend as the very first book for someone to read?

Who’s your favorite character? If you like Han Solo, I have a couple of good recommendations. In fact, it’s my only recommendations because that’s all I’ve ventured into the SW book universe.

I would say Heir to the Empire trilogy if you’ve never read any Star Wars books. It’s considered one of the best expanded universe books. Or you could try The Courtship of Princess Leia if you want something that happens right after the movies. I haven’t read enough of them to give better recs than that! :)

I’ve wanted to read Courtship of Princess Leia for a while, but I’ve just never got around to it. I’m sure I’d love it! :D

PS–Did I ever tell you that one of my friend’s wrote a Star Wars fan fiction with me as Han Solo’s love interest? It took place between ANH and Empire. I should let you read it some time. It’s kind of funny.

My sister read lots of Star Wars books and enjoyed them. I love the movies but never read any books. Sci-fi in book form doesn’t really work for me.
