When I read, I ask a LOT of questions. Here’s some stuff I searched or wondered about while reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. (Read my review). It’s a great dystopian novel that is so unique with a rich and interesting world.

The Factions

My favorite part by far about Divergent was the factions. Each faction has an entire culture dedicated to cultivating a certain virtue. I had a hard time keeping them straight at first, so I made a little guide for myself to help my sucky memory.

Abnegation

Those who blamed selfishness formed Abnegation.

Virtue: Selflessness

Colors and accessories they wear: Gray. They wear no accessories besides a plain watch because they don’t like to draw attention to themsleves.

Erudite

Those who blamed ignorance formed Erudite.

Virtue: Intelligence

Colors and accessories they wear: Blue because it calms the mind. A lot of them wear glasses.

Candor

Those who blamed duplicity formed Candor.

Virtue: Honesty

Colors and accessories they wear: Black and white because they see the truth as black and white. Men often wear suits with white ties.

Dauntless

Those who blamed cowardice were the Dauntless.

Virtue: Bravery

Colors and accessories they wear: Black. They usually get tattoos.

Those who blamed aggression formed Amity.

Virtue: Kindness

Colors and accessories they wear: Red and yellow. They like wearing jewelry and make-up.

Places

Another cool thing about Divergent is that it’s set in a futuristic and devastated Chicago. Here’s a few places mentioned in Divergent that are real.

I didn’t know until I did a Google search that they changed the name of the Sears Tower to the Willis Tower. Ugh. I hate it when they change names for buildings like that. Anyway. In the book they call it The Hub.
